It was based on the approaches on the Social Representations of the Classical School to understand how they are built and what elements intervene. The methodology used was based on the qualitative paradigm and the phenomenological-constructivist approach that allowed analyzing the subjectivities of the study subjects in the process of knowledge construction. It was concluded on the need to transform the teaching of geography in the career, implementing practical methodologies that approach the materiality of geographical thought. Likewise, the implementation of the territory was raised as an integrating axis in Social Studies. El presente artículo tiene por objetivo describir la influencia de las representaciones sociales sobre el territorio, las experiencias personales y el pensamiento geográfico en la formación inicial docente de estudiantes de I y IV nivel de la carrera en Enseñanza de Estudios Sociales y Educación Cívica de la Universidad Nacional de Costa Rica. Se partió de los planteamientos sobre las representaciones sociales de la escuela clásica para entender de qué forma se construyen y qué elementos intervienen. La metodología empleada se fundamentó en el paradigma cualitativo y el enfoque fenomenológico-constructivista que permite analizar las subjetividades de las personas sujeto de estudio en el proceso de construcción de conocimientos. Se concluyó en la necesidad de transformación de la enseñanza de la geografía en la carrera, implementando metodologías prácticas que acerquen a la materialidad del pensamiento geográfico. Asimismo, se planteó la implementación del territorio como un eje integrador en los Estudios Sociales.   O objetivo deste artigo é descrever a influência das Representações Sociais sobre o território, as experiências pessoais e o pensamento geográfico na formação inicial de professores dos alunos do I e IV nível da carreira em Docência de Estudos Sociais e Formação Cívica da Universidade Nacional de Costa Rica. Partiu-se das abordagens sobre as Representações Sociais da Escola Clássica para compreender como são construídas e que elementos intervêm. A metodologia utilizada assentou no paradigma qualitativo e na abordagem fenomenológico-construtivista que permitiu analisar as subjetividades dos sujeitos do estudo no processo de construção do conhecimento. Concluiu-se sobre a necessidade de transformar o ensino de Geografia na carreira, implementando metodologias práticas que abordem a materialidade do pensamento geográfico. Da mesma forma, a implementação do território foi levantada como um eixo integrador nos Estudos Sociais.
