This article presents some ideas about the state of Honduran historiography in relation to this historical fact, visualizing possible challenges or thematic lines to be promoted. In addition, it addresses the challenges facing the teaching-learning of history given the constant debates and contributions that specialized literature and research have produced on this topic. In this sense, it is acknowledged that progress in the teaching-learning of history is linked to the initial and ongoing training of teachers, making possible a qualitative leap in their educational practices; likewise, the theoretical contributions made by historians on these topics that are part of the national curriculum will have a positive impact on the development of school history in Honduras. La conmemoración del bicentenario de la independencia centroamericana conlleva reflexionar sobre qué historia enseñar, tomando como puntos de análisis la historiografía independentista y las condiciones de la enseñanza-aprendizaje de esa historia. Este artículo expone algunas ideas acerca del estado de la historiografía hondureña en relación con este hecho histórico, visualizando posibles retos o líneas temáticas por potenciar. Además, se abordan los desafíos que enfrenta la enseñanza-aprendizaje de la historia, dados los constantes debates y aportes que la literatura e investigación especializada han producido de este tema. En tal sentido, se reconoce que los progresos sobre la enseñanza-aprendizaje de la historia están vinculados a la formación inicial y permanente de los docentes, hecho que posibilita un salto cualitativo en sus prácticas educativas; asimismo, las contribuciones teóricas que los historiadores realicen con base en estas temáticas que forman parte del currículo nacional generarán un impacto positivo en el desarrollo de la historia escolar en Honduras.
