The first reception of the novel in Spain is reconstructed, as the origins of a reading bias that tends to identify and confuse the historical document with that of fiction are traced; likewise, biographical data of Castellanos Moya relevant to the reading of Insensatez are analyzed. Finally, the most important critical contributions on the subject are discussed and two specific collations are presented to argue the central hypothesis of this work. Se desarrolla la hipótesis de que el documento corregido y citado por el narrador de Insensatez no es una copia fiel del informe Guatemala: Nunca más. Se reconstruye la primera recepción de la novela en España y se rastrea el surgimiento de un prejuicio de lectura que tiende a identificar y confundir el documento histórico con el de la ficción; asimismo, se analizan algunos datos biográficos de Castellanos Moya, relevantes para la lectura de Insensatez. Finalmente, se señalan las aportaciones críticas más importantes sobre el tema y se exponen dos cotejos puntuales para argumentar la hipótesis central de este trabajo.
