It addresses two Guatemalan novels from the beginning of the 21st century written by Gerardo Guinea Diez: El árbol de Adán and La mirada remota. It applies theoretical concepts from Segato, Bourdieu, Arendt and Agamben, for the analysis of fundamental categories such as those of nation, state, democracy, citizenship or freedom. El artículo propone aspectos para la caracterización de la novela de crímenes en la región centroamericana y su expansión en tanto categoría generalmente ligada a lo policiaco o noir, a partir del estudio de la escrituración estética que presenta casos de genocidio en las sociedades actuales. Estudia dos novelas guatemaltecas de principios del siglo XXI de Gerardo Guinea Diez: El árbol de Adán y La mirada remota. Se apoya en algunas propuestas teóricas de Segato, Bourdieu, Arendt y Agamben, para el análisis de categorías fundamentales como nación, Estado, democracia, ciudadanía o libertad.
