Bulbophyllum punakhaense is morphologically similar to B. farreri, B. thaiorum, and B. mamillatum, but can be easily distinguished by its larger leaves, pseudobulbs distantly placed on the rhizome, longer peduncle, and oblong-lanceolate petals with shortly papillate margin towards the apex.
