The research states that this institution, paramount for diffusing agricultural innovations of the so-called «green revolution», had three sources. The first one refers to one program of agricultural development built up by Sánchez between 1945 and 1951, which defined the crops-and-livestock activities that would be the target of streamlining. The second is related to previous experiences of agricultural extension in Mexico, with a particular interest in those of the National Corn Commission, which between 1949 and 1951 started projects of improved seeds and fertilizers diffusion. The third was the technical and financial support of the Mexican Agricultural Program, a project for agricultural modernization in which the Rockefeller Foundation was involved. El artículo analiza la organización y funcionamiento del primer servicio de extensión en México, establecido en el Estado de México en 1952 durante el gobierno del ingeniero agrónomo Salvador Sánchez Colín. El trabajo sostiene que esta institución, fundamental para la difusión de las innovaciones agropecuarias de la denominada «revolución verde», tuvo tres fuentes. La primera, un programa de desarrollo agropecuario que Sánchez construyó entre 1945 y 1951, y que definió las actividades agropecuarias que serían objetivo de la tecnificación. La segunda, las experiencias previas de extensionismo agrícola en México, con particular atención en la Comisión Nacional del Maíz, que entre 1949 y 1951 emprendió proyectos de difusión de semillas mejoradas y fertilizantes. La tercera es el apoyo técnico y financiero del Plan Agrícola Mexicano, proyecto de modernización agropecuaria en el que participaba la Fundación Rockefeller. Este artigo analisa a organização e o funcionamento do primeiro serviço de extensão no México, estabelecido no Estado do México em 1952 durante o governo do agrônomo Salvador Sánchez Colín. O documento argumenta que essa instituição, fundamental para a difusão das inovações agrícolas da chamada «revolução verde», tinha três fontes. A primeira foi um programa de desenvolvimento agrícola que Sánchez construiu entre 1945 e 1951, que definiu as atividades agropecuárias que seriam o objetivo da tecnificação. A segunda foi a experiência anterior do extensionismo agrícola no México, com particular atenção à Comissão Nacional do Milho, que entre 1949 e 1951 empreendeu projetos para a disseminação de sementes melhoradas e fertilizantes. A terceira é o apoio técnico e financeiro do Plano Agrícola Mexicano, um projeto de modernização agropecuária do qual participou a Fundação Rockefeller.
