El presente trabajo se centra en uno de los períodos más importantes y al mismo tiempo menos conocidos de la evolución reciente de la izquierda en Uruguay: aquel que afecta a los años claves de gestación de los grupos revolucionarios que, a partir de 1968 y hasta el golpe de Estado de 1973, jugaron un papel fundamental en la evolución política y social del país rioplatense.
