There has been a substitution of this forest type for another more adapted to widespread tourist concepts, such as the existence of palm trees. These substitution processes involve the movement of species, mangrove removal and habitat reduction for different flora and fauna species. This is due mainly to economic criteria, where spaces in the tourist imaginary are attempted to be recreated, thereby scarifying the original natural heritage landscape and replacing it with scenery more customary to international standards of sun and beach tourism. This article aims to raise awareness of the changes and to show that the original mangrove ecosystems envelope unmeasured richness that have not yet been calculated in biodiversity terms. La actividad turística en la costa pacífica de Costa Rica ha propiciado un importante cambio en los ecosistemas de manglar. Se ha experimentado una sustitución de este tipo de bosque por otros más adaptados a conceptos turísticos generalizados, como la existencia de palmeras. Estos procesos de sustitución implican el movimiento de especies, la eliminación de manglares, la reducción de hábitats para diferentes especies de flora y fauna. Lo anterior obedece a criterio principalmente económicos, en donde se intenta recrear espacios en el imaginario turístico, sacrificando así el patrimonio natural original y sustituyéndolo por paisajes propios del turismo internacional de sol y playa. Es por ello que el siguiente artículo pretende crear conciencia de los cambios que se han experimentado, y más aún, hacer ver el hecho de que los ecosistemas originales de manglar, encierran riquezas que aún no han sido calculadas en términos de biodiversidad.
