Therefore, we have done a literary search of the authors Maurice Merleau-Ponty, Yi-Fu Tuan and Salete Kozel related to the subject. The research indicates the need for social materialization representation on the part of humanistic geographical studies, which can occur through collective mental maps. Such maps are composed of signs which, after being interpreted, reveal values, identities and aspirations in order to characterize places. Este artículo tiene por objetivo explanar la cuestión de la representación espacial en los estudios de la Geografía Humanista convergiendo en el proceso de cartografía mental colectiva. Para tanto, fue realizada una investigación bibliográfica, de autores relacionados al tema, como Maurice MerleuPonty, Yi-Fu Tuan y Salete Kozel. La investigación indica la necesidad por parte de los estudios humanistas geográficos de materialización de la representación personal, que pude ocurrir por medio de mapas mentales. Estos mapas son compuestos por signos que, después de interpretados, revelan valores, identidades y aspiraciones personales de modo a caracterizar lugares. Este artigo tem por objetivo explanar a questão da representação espacial nos estudos da Geografia Humanista confluindo para o processo de mapeamento mental coletivo. Para tanto, foi realizada uma investigação bibliográfica de autores relacionados ao tema como Maurice Merleau-Ponty, YiFu Tuan e Salete Kozel. A investigação indica a necessidade por parte dos estudos humanistas geográficos de materialização das representações sociais, o que pode ocorrer por meio de mapas mentais coletivos. Tais mapas são compostos por signos que, após serem interpretados, revelam valores, identidades e aspirações de grupos de pessoas que caracterizam os lugares.
