In response to a lack of tools and technical-scientific studies at the national level to provide measures and strategies to reduce and minimize the impacts of such spills, this research uses the methodology for the creation of an Environmental Sensitivity Index (ESI) developed by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) of the United States, which considers three variables: coastal geomorphology and biological and anthropic use resources. It has been calibrated and adjusted to the characteristics of the Gulf of Nicoya. The results obtained determine the classification of the coastline according to the degree of sensitivity to a spill, and therefore the immediate response measures. El trabajo a continuación es un análisis de la sensibilidad ambiental de los espacios marino y costero dentro del Golfo de Nicoya ante derrames de hidrocarburos. Como respuesta a una carencia de herramientas y estudios técnico-científicos a nivel nacional, que aporten medidas y estrategias para reducir y minimizar los impactos a causa de un accidente por vertidos petrolíferos. En esta investigación se utiliza la metodología para la creación de Índices de Sensibilidad Ambiental (ISA) desarrollado por la Administración Nacional Atmosférica y Oceánica (NOAA) de los Estados Unidos, la cual estudia tres variables:litoral, recursos biológicos y recursos de uso antrópico. Misma que ha sido calibrada y ajustada para las características del Golfo de Nicoya. De los resultados obtenidos se determina la clasificación de la línea de costa; según grado de sensibilidad ante un derrame, y por consiguiente las medidas de repuesta inmediatas.
