Orozco-Montoya, Ricardo balance hídrico microcuencas región central In Costa Rica, although water resources are abundant, certain areas face difficulties due to reduced availability for residents, leading to issues in supplying water for domestic and industrial use. The School of Geographic Sciences has actively addressed this issue. Since 2001, it has been quantifying water resources through the calculation of water balances in the micro-watersheds of the Poás, Ciruelas, Segundo, Bermúdez, Tibás, and Pará rivers. These studies have determined that the predominant availability is moderate, which suggests that it will soon become low. Therefore, it is urgent to implement proper management of the micro-watersheds to mitigate excessive water use. En Costa Rica el recurso hídrico, aunque es abundante, presenta en algunos sectores dificultades debido a la reducción de su disponibilidad para los habitantes, generando problemas de abastecimiento de agua para el uso doméstico e industrial. La Escuela de Ciencias Geográficas no se ha mantenido al margen de esta problemática, por lo que desde el año 2001 se ha desarrollado una cuantificación del recurso hídrico mediante el cálculo de balances hídricos en las microcuencas de los ríos Poás, Ciruelas, Segundo, Bermúdez, Tibás y Pará. En estos estudios se ha logrado determinar que la disponibilidad predominante es la media, que implica que pronto será baja, por lo que es urgente un ordenamiento adecuado de las microcuencas con el fin de reducir el uso excesivo del agua. Na Costa Rica, o recurso hídrico, embora abundante, apresenta dificuldades em alguns setores devido à redução de sua disponibilidade para os habitantes, gerando problemas de abastecimento de água para uso doméstico e industrial. A Escola de Ciências Geográficas não se manteve alheia a essa problemática e, desde 2001, tem desenvolvido uma quantificação do recurso hídrico por meio do cálculo de balanços hídricos nas microbacias dos rios Poás, Ciruelas, Segundo, Bermúdez, Tibás e Pará. Nestes estudos, foi possível determinar que a disponibilidade predominante é média, o que implica que em breve será baixa, tornando urgente um ordenamento adequado das microbacias para reduzir o uso excessivo da água.
