A qualitative methodology was used, including 234 surveys using single random sampling, exploratory sessions, and discussions to identify emotions related to climate change. The findings showed that youths experience emotions, such as fear, anguish, and despair, but these do not lead to apathy. On the other hand, students strongly desire to learn and act by raising questions about how to mitigate the problem and the effectiveness of their individual actions against emissions from large corporations. It is concluded that it is essential to include emotional responses in climate change education instead of trying to generate hope artificially. It is recommended to create action agendas tailored to different sectors, addressing mitigation, adaptation, and climate justice, emphasizing the need for collaboration between local and international efforts to tackle this global challenge. El artículo describe y analiza el impacto de las emociones que surgen por el cambio climático en el estudiantado de diversas carreras de la Universidad de Costa Rica, específicamente en el Recinto de Guápiles, y cómo estas influyen en su decisión de tomar acciones al respecto. Se hizo una investigación con fines descriptivos, con una metodología cualitativa usando un muestreo aleatorio simple, el cual incluyó la realización de 234 encuestas, así como sesiones exploratorias y conversatorios. Los hallazgos revelaron que las personas jóvenes experimentan emociones como miedo, angustia y desesperanza, pero estas no conducen a la apatía. Por su parte, el estudiantado expresó un fuerte deseo de aprender y actuar, al plantear preguntas sobre cómo mitigar el problema y la efectividad de sus acciones individuales frente a las emisiones de grandes corporaciones. Se concluye que es importante abordar las emociones en la educación sobre cambio climático, en lugar de tratar de generar una esperanza artificial. Se sugiere crear agendas de acción adecuadas para los diferentes sectores, que aborden temas de mitigación, adaptación y justicia climática, destacando la necesidad de una colaboración tanto local como internacional para enfrentar este desafío global.
