It reviews the historical development of educational technology from the early programs in the 1980s to the most recent initiatives such as the National Technology Training Program of 2024. It examines current challenges, including inequalities in technology access, deficiencies in teachers’ digital competence training, and issues in the management of technological resources by the Ministry of Public Education (MEP in Spanish). The text highlights the importance of effective educational management in the technological integration process, emphasizing opportunities such as the use of computer labs, relevant teacher training, and adequate scheduling. It stresses the need to align competencies, micro-curriculum, and educational policies for a successful pedagogical transformation, despite the challenges associated with the reduced investment in education. Este ensayo pretende generar una reflexión en torno a la integración de la tecnología en la educación costarricense, enfatizando el papel crucial de la gestión educativa en este proceso. Se presenta una revisión del desarrollo histórico de la tecnología educativa, desde los primeros programas en la década de 1980, hasta las más recientes iniciativas como el Programa Nacional de Formación Tecnológica de 2024. Además, se examinan los desafíos actuales, que incluyen desigualdades en el acceso a la tecnología, deficiencias en la formación de competencias digitales de los docentes, y problemas en la gestión de recursos tecnológicos por parte del Ministerio de Educación Pública (MEP). El texto señala la importancia de una gestión educativa eficaz en el proceso de incorporación tecnológica, y destaca oportunidades como la utilización de laboratorios de informática, la capacitación docente pertinente y la adecuada carga horaria. Se hace hincapié en la necesidad de alinear competencias, microcurrículo y políticas educativas para una transformación pedagógica exitosa, a pesar de los retos asociados con la disminución de inversión en educación.
