Este ensayo pretende reflexionar sobre los efectos negativos que ha dejado el neoliberalismo y la búsqueda de la modernidad en la educación latinoamericana y, a su vez, señalar cómo los movimientos sociales han influido para contrarrestar los efectos depredadores del capitalismo, al adherirse a una pedagogía crítica ligada a una educación del pueblo, con especial atención en la educación zapatista que, en su lucha por una sociedad justa, democrática y libre, diseñó un sistema educativo derivado de la pedagogía crítica como alternativa al dominio de una educación neoliberal.
