She discusses the steps backward that according to "The State of the Nation Report" Costa Rica has experienced as a nation in the educational field. In this context, she challenges educators, educational administrators and policy makers to exert their leadership to overcome this deteriorating trend. She stresses the urgency of a concerted process to develop and implement a ten-year educational improvement strategy. In regard to the period of time elapsing between modernity and post modernity, the author argues in favor of a new paradigm in the future that conciliates science, technique and spirituality within a new humanism. La autora inicia el ensayo con un esbozo del cuadro desolador que caracteriza la cultura humana al final el siglo XX. Luego hace referencia a los deterioro de Costa Rica, según el "Informe del Estado de la Nación ", con los déficit en materia educacional. En ese contexto el desafío para los educadores: mayor para los administradores por su liderazgo. Propone la urgencia de un proceso concertado para el desarrollo de la educación, proyectado a diez años. En la perspectiva temporal entre modernidad y postmodernidad, se plantea la necesidad de un nuevo paradigma, a futuro, que concilie ciencia, técnica, espiritualidad dentro de un nuevo humanismo.
