The Caribbean region and, particularly, the Cuban archipelago are systematically affected by multiple natural phenomena, which cause significant material damages and the loss of human lives. That is why the National Strategy on Environmental Education in Cuba declares as prioritized aspect population preparedness against hazards, vulnerability, and risks. In this regard, this review article discusses the theoretical and methodological foundations that underpin the education for disaster risk perception in the context of the educational processes in the schools of Cuba from the perspective of environmental education for sustainable development. La región del Caribe, y en particular el archipiélago cubano, son afectados sistemáticamente por múltiples fenómenos naturales, los cuales ocasionan daños materiales de consideración y pérdidas de vidas humanas. Por ello, la Estrategia Nacional de Educación Ambiental de Cuba declara como aspecto priorizado la preparación de la población en los temas de peligro, vulnerabilidad y riesgo. En este sentido, el presente artículo de revisión aborda los fundamentos teóricos y metodológicos que sustentan la educación para la percepción de riesgos de desastres en el contexto de los procesos educativos escolares en la escuela cubana, desde la perspectiva de la educación ambiental para el desarrollo sostenible.  A região do Caribe e, particularmente, o arquipélago cubano, são sistematicamente afetadas por muitos fenômenos naturais, que causam significativos danos materiais e a perda de vidas. Portanto, a Estratégia Nacional de Educação Ambiental de Cuba declara como prioridade, preparar a população sobre os temas de perigo, riscos e vulnerabilidade. Neste sentido, este artigo de revisão discute os fundamentos teóricos e metodológicos que apoiam uma educação que ajude na percepção de riscos de desastres no contexto dos processos escolares na educação cubana, a partir da perspectiva da educação ambiental para o desenvolvimento sustentável.
