Una revisión bibliográfica Salinas-Cabrera, Denisse Educación ambiental desarrollo consumo sustentabilidad Chile Environmental education development consumption sustainability Chile The objective of the following article is to carry out a review of the literature in academic texts and official documents resulting from various international conferences that deal with topics related to environmental education, sustainable development and sustainable consumption. A selection of the most important milestones in the evolution of environmental education is carried out, making a tour in history since 1949 from the first Research of Unesco, to the most recent summit Rio+20 in 2012; subsequently, the article will describe the actions for environmental education that Chile is performing according to the documentation, revised and existing national legislation, in school settings (formal education) and citizenship training (non-formal education). It is stated that the task of consumer education in Chile is only partially channeled by a government agency, which provides guidelines for responsible consumption. It is concluded with this review that in Chile the environmental education for sustainable consumption and development has a formed base that progresses slowly and that, in accordance with the revised documentation, should materialize to a greater extent, in projects and programs for the benefit of the country’s natural and social scene. Thus, it would also be relevant that there is a formal curriculum addition, where emphasis is placed on mandatory contents of environmental education and, in turn, a specialization of teachers in this discipline. Recibido 21 de julio de 2014 • Corregido 1 de noviembre de 2015 • Aceptado 3 de noviembre de 2015El objetivo del siguiente artículo es realizar una revisión bibliográfica en textos académicos y documentos oficiales fruto de diversas conferencias internacionales que abordan temas en educación ambiental, desarrollo sustentable y consumo sustentable. Se realiza una selección de los hitos más importantes sobre la evolución de la educación ambiental, realizando un recorrido en la historia desde el año 1949 a partir de las primeras investigaciones de la Unesco, hasta la cumbre más reciente Rio+20 en 2012, posteriormente se realizará una descripción de las acciones para la educación ambiental que Chile está realizando en concordancia con la documentación revisada y la legislación nacional vigente, en ámbitos escolares (educación formal) y formación de la ciudadanía (educación no formal). Se expone que la tarea de educación para el consumo en Chile es canalizada parcialmente solo por un organismo gubernamental, el cual entrega pautas para un consumo responsable. Se concluye con esta revisión que en Chile la educación ambiental para el desarrollo y consumo sustentable tiene una base formada que progresa lentamente y que, de acuerdo con toda la documentación revisada, debe materializarse en mayor medida, en proyectos y programas en beneficio del escenario natural y social del país. Así, también resultaría relevante que exista una incorporación curricular formal, en donde el énfasis se sitúe en contenidos obligatorios de educación ambiental y, a su vez, una especialización de docentes en esta disciplina.
