In recent years, the migration of Cuban population has taken new directions; this is mainly due to the migration policy flexibility adopted by the Cuban government and other Latin America governments, such as Ecuador, Grenada, Trinidad and Tobago, Dominican Republic, and Haiti, among others, by issuing visas in favorable conditions for the population. Although there are varied reasons to migrate, this population has traditionally migrated motivated by the United States Cuban Adjustment Act which grants administrative advantages for regularization; no other country of the continent offers this privilege. Due to their political exile condition, whoever arrives to the United States will easily have access to legal mechanisms for migrant regularization. Although there has been great work on migration in general terms, little has been addressed on the Cuban migration in the Central American region; possibly this is due to the difficulty to find quantitative information in this regard. The article aims to facilitate the understanding of migration in a context of flexibility and establishment of new relations between the Caribbean and Central America. En los últimos años la migración de población cubana ha tomado nuevos rumbos, debido principalmente a flexibilización en la política migratoria que ha adoptado el gobierno de Cuba y algunos otros gobiernos de América Latina, tal como Ecuador, Granada, Dominica, Trinidad y Tobago, Haití, entre otros, al permitir el visado en condiciones favorables para la población. Aunque son variadas las razones para migrar, esta población tradicionalmente lo ha hecho motivada por la Ley de Ajuste Cubano de Estados Unidos, que permite obtener las ventajas administrativas para la regularización que no ofrece ningún otro país del continente, pues mediante la figura del exilio político, a cualquiera que toque suelo estadounidense se le facilita una serie de mecanismos jurídicos para la regularización migratoria. Aunque se ha trabajo mucho sobre migración en términos generales, poco se ha abordado sobre la migración cubana en la región centroamericana, posiblemente esto se debe a la dificultad para encontrar información cuantitativa al respecto. El artículo busca facilitar la comprensión de la migración en un contexto de flexibilización y establecimiento de nuevas relaciones entre el Caribe y Centroamérica. Nos últimos anos, a imigração da população cubana tomou novos rumos, principalmente devido à flexibilização da política de imigração adotada pelo governo de Cuba e outros governos da América Latina, como o Equador, Granada, Dominica, Trinidad & Tobago, Haiti, entre outros, ao permitir que as condições de visto sejam favoráveis para a população. Mesmo sendo varias as razões para a imigração, a motivação tradicional da população era a Lei de Ajuste Cubano dos Estados Unidos, expondo as vantagens administrativas de regularização que nenhum outro país do continente oferece, porque, através da figura do exílio político, qualquer um que pise no solo americano tem a vantagem de uma série de mecanismos legais para a regularização imigratória. Embora tenha havido muito trabalho sobre a imigração em geral, poucos sao os debates sobre a imigração cubana na América Central, possivelmente devido à dificuldade de encontrar informações quantitativas sobre esse tema. Esta pesquisa visa facilitar a compreensão das imigrações em um contexto de flexibilização e estabelecimento de novas relações entre o Caribe e América Central.
