Este artículo rescata la cosmovisión, la identidad de la cultura maya, sus valores de conexióncon la Madre Tierra, su responsabilidad social comunitaria y de cómo estos influyen en el desarrollode prácticas ambientales tradicionales orientadas al logro del Buen Vivir. El componentevivencial que aporta el trabajo de campo desarrollado con grupos de mujeres en la Reserva dela Biosfera Maya, permite conocer de forma más profunda cómo las prácticas ambientales delrescate alimenticio de la nuez de ramón y la aplicación de la medicina tradicional indígena,pueden considerarse ejemplos concretos de un pensamiento ambiental latinoamericano en acción,que ha sido reconocido con galardones internacionales de gran prestigio, al ser iniciativascomunitarias que rescatan conocimientos tradicionales, procurando una mejor calidad de vidamediante la conservación, el uso sostenible de la naturaleza y el respeto a los derechos humanos.AbstractThis article affirms the value of a local and indigenous lifestyle by specifically analyzing the sourcesof Mayan cultural identity, the importance of the connection to Mother Earth, and morals of socialresponsibility and environmental awareness aimed to achieve the Good Life. Specific fieldwork conductedamong women’s groups in the Maya Biosphere Reserve highlights how the collection of nutsfrom the “ramón” plant and traditional indigenous medicine exemplify Latin American environmental consciousness.
