Este trabajo indaga sobre las posibilidades de las fuentes de información oficial en Argentina y Brasil para monitorear los compromisos relacionados con la reducción de la mortalidad en los primeros años de vida asumidos en el marco de la adhesión a la Convención sobre los Derechos del Niño y a las posteriores conferencias basadas en su texto. En otras palabras, intenta responder los siguientes interrogantes: ¿En qué medida la información registrada permite dar seguimiento a tales compromisos? ¿Qué calidad presenta dicha información? ¿Cumple con los requisitos de periodicidad y desagregación? ¿Se respeta el principio de rendición de cuentas? El análisis de la información proveniente de las fuentes referidas permite concluir que, si bien es posible monitorear la mayoría de los compromisos asumidos, existen algunas dificultades ligadas al seguimiento en el tiempo de las diferencias entre sectores sociales, geográficos y culturales. Esto último acusa la necesidad de redoblar los esfuerzos en todas las etapas del proceso de generación, tratamiento y presentación de los datos.AbstractThis paper aims to analyze the possibilities of official data sources in Argentina and Brazil for monitoringthe commitments related to the reduction of under five-year-old mortality level, both in the context of accession to the Convention on the Rights of the Child and later international conferences based on it.In other words, it aims to answer the following questions: Does recorded information allow monitoringall the commitments? What about its quality? Is it periodic and disaggregated? It is published accordingto the principle of accountability, is it published? Although the data sources allow monitoring most of thecommitments, there are some difficulties linked to observing the differences between social, geographicaland cultural sectors.
