Emphasis is placed on the need to incorporate the gender perspective in academia due to the patriarchal bias that persists in the curriculum, language, and university governance. Around the world, in general terms university enrollment has become feminized, although a bias towards so-called traditional majors persists. Therefore, it is necessary to incorporate gender policies that allow women to ascend the pyramid of science and technology. El presente artículo aborda el papel que deben jugar las universidades como catalizadores para el desarrollo humano sostenible. Se hace énfasis en la necesidad de incorporar la perspectiva de género en la academia debido al sesgo patriarcal que persiste en la curricula, en el lenguaje y en la gobernanza universitaria. Alrededor del mundo, en términos generales la matrícula universitaria se ha feminizado, aunque persiste un sesgo hacia las llamadas carreras tradicionales. Por lo que se requiere incorporar políticas de género que permitan a las mujeres ascender en la pirámide de la ciencia y la tecnología.
