Un recuento histórico y normativo García Anaya, Jorge Martín Personal data protection mexican legislation privacy information security self-regulation Protección de datos personales legislación mexicana privacidad seguridad de la información autorregulación In a global context characterized by digitization and an increasing concern for privacy, the efforts of the Mexican government to establish a legal framework for the protection of personal data that began in the 2000s have been extensive and significant. The purpose of this study is to demonstrate the historical and regulatory evolution governing data protection in Mexico. Based on a qualitative and interpretive approach, the literature review focused on the evolution of legislation in this area. Furthermore, through a historical and regulatory analysis, the achievements made and the persistent challenges in the implementation of data protection policies are examined, as well as the gaps in information security and public awareness. It is concluded that it is essential to strengthen public policies with robust security tools. En un contexto global marcado por la digitalización y un aumento en la preocupación por la privacidad, los esfuerzos del gobierno mexicano para establecer un marco legal de protección de datos personales iniciados en los años 2000 han sido amplios y significativos. El propósito de este estudio es mostrar la evolución histórica y normativa que rige la protección de datos en México. Basados en un enfoque cualitativo e interpretativo, la revisión bibliográfica se encaminó hacia la evolución de la legislación en este ámbito. Asimismo, a través de un análisis histórico y normativo se examinan los avances logrados y los retos persistentes en la implementación de políticas de protección de datos, así como las brechas en seguridad de la información y la concienciación ciudadana. Se concluye que es esencial fortalecer las políticas públicas con herramientas de seguridad robustas. Universidad de El Salvador.
