The symbolic categorization of the so-called “Barrios del sur” is studied, through the analysis of the way in which some processes of inequality and urban exclusion intensified in said population sectors El presente estudio aborda el proceso histórico y sociológico de la segregación urbana acaecido en una serie de barriadas urbano-populares del Cantón Central de San José en el período de 1950 a 1980. Para ello, se estudia la categorización simbólica de los llamados “barrios del Sur”, a través del análisis de la forma en que algunos procesos de desigualdad y exclusión urbana se intensificaron en dichos sectores poblacionales, en una coyuntura política sujeta a la dinámica estatal de carácter desarrollista Universidad de El Salvador.
