Considering the diverse and invaluable manifestations, festivities, commemorations and existing cultural compilations, product of the cultural inheritance of a past loaded with the noble and great struggles of our ancestors, the authors, seeking to enliven the adequate valuation of the primordial factors of the intangible cultural heritage of Azuero, share, through this article, precise information regarding the deficiencies and devaluations of the intangible cultural, tending to the loss of identity in the future generations. The study carried out under the qualitative methodology with the technique of focal groups allowed to know the point of view of the population on the subject and to identify the existence of a problem at regional and probably national, and international level, given its partial ignorance among the new generations due to the new technologies and foreign currents. It was concluded that this study is the starting point for other research since Panama is undertaking new actions on tourism promotion and strengthening of the intangible cultural heritage from the institutions of the Tourism Authority and the National Institute of Culture. El notable crecimiento poblacional en Azuero despierta el interés de la investigación participativa acerca del patrimonio cultural inmaterial, como una herramienta para la promoción de los destinos turísticos en la región central del país, Panamá. Considerando las diversas e invaluables manifestaciones, festividades, conmemoraciones y recopilaciones culturales existentes, producto de la herencia cultural de un pasado cargado de las nobles y grandes luchas de nuestros antecesores, las autoras buscando avivar la valoración adecuada de los factores primordiales del patrimonio cultural inmaterial azuerense, comparten, mediante este artículo, información precisa referente a las carencias y desvalorizaciones de lo cultural inmaterial, tendientes a la pérdida de identidad en las futuras generaciones. El estudio realizado bajo la metodología cualitativa con la técnica de grupos focales permitió conocer el punto de vista de la población sobre el tema e identificar la existencia de un problema a nivel regional y probablemente, nacional e internacional, dado su desconocimiento parcial entre las nuevas generaciones debido a las nuevas tecnologías y corrientes foráneas. Se concluyó que este estudio es el punto de partida para otras investigaciones, puesto que Panamá emprende nuevas acciones sobre promoción turística y fortalecimiento del patrimonio cultural inmaterial desde las instituciones de la Autoridad de Turismo y el Instituto Nacional de Cultura.
