In a lot of time they were out of context in the National Planning of Educational Development, principally for economic factors. At present the school libraries are in a process of change where they seek to have a fundamental paper in the attainment of the aims of the Costa Rican education. En el pasado las bibliotecas escolares de Costa Rica representaban sitios sin ningún atractivo. Por mucho tiempo estuvieron fuera de contexto en la Planificación Nacional de Desarrollo Educativo, principalmente por factores económicos. En la actualidad las bibliotecas escolares se encuentran en un proceso de cambio donde buscan tener un papel fundamental en la consecución de los objetivos de la educación costarricense.
