In the first instance, a brief contextualization appears on the manifesto of the public libraries of UNESCO and the importance of creating a unifdad of information of this type in this canton. As a second section, the general and specific objectives that structured the research appear; to later refer to the methodological framework. Finally, the conclusions of the diagnosis of the canton's sociodemographic characteristics, educational level and economic activities, as well as the information needs of its residents, are presented. El presente documentoresumen el trabajo final de graduación sobre la propuesta de creación de una Biblioteca Pública en el cantón de Zarcero en la provincia de Alajuela. En primera instancia aparece una breve contextualización sobre el manifiesto de las bibliotecas públicas de la UNESCO y la importanciua de crear una unifdad de información de este tipo en dicho cantón. Como segundo apartado, aparecen los objetivos generales y específicos que estructuraron la invetigación; para posteriormente referirse al marco metodológico. Finalmente se muestran las conclusiones producto del diagnóstico realizado sobre las características sociodemografícas, el nivel educativo y las actividades económicas que presenta el cantón, así como las necesidades de información que presentan sus residentes.
