This time, we include the contributions of several authors, both domestic and international, who contribute their ideas and approaches to further study of topics of great interest and importance in the daily work of the library profession. The Information Society, a term first used in the seventies and regain strength in the nineties, points to a new conception of society, where any person, company or group can access and share all kinds of information, no matter where or how. This can be achieved thanks to the emergence of new technologies and advanced information and communication technologies (ICT) that enable search, storage, processing, safeguarding and dissemination of information to any person who needs . Bienvenidos a un nuevo número de la revista Bibliotecas. En esta oportunidad, incluimos los aportes de varios autores, tanto nacionales como internacionales, que contribuyen con sus ideas y planteamientos a profundizar en el estudio de temáticas de gran actualidad e importancia en el diario quehacer de la profesión bibliotecológica. La Sociedad de la Información, término utilizado por primera vez en la década de los setenta y que recobra fuerza en los años noventa, apunta a una nueva concepción de sociedad, donde cualquier persona, empresa o grupo puede obtener y compartir todo tipo de información, sin importar el lugar o la forma. Lo anterior se puede lograr gracias al surgimiento de nuevas y avanzadas tecnologías de la información y la comunicación (TIC), que hacen posible la búsqueda, el almacenamiento, el procesamiento, el resguardo y la difusión de la información para toda aquélla persona que la necesite.
