Established in 1954 and despite this to date there is no study on the aquatic avifauna it houses. Information is presented from the research for water birds carried out between November 2018 and October 2023, through tours that covered 80% of the body of water, recording 45 species belonging to 7 orders and 16 taxonomic families. The families with the highest number of species were Ardeidae (n=11), Scolopacidae (n=8), Anatidae and Laridae (n=5). Th especies with the highest relative abundance were: Neotropic Cormorant (Nannopterum brasilianum), Black-bellied Whistling-Duck (Dendrocygna autumnalis), Lesser Scaup (Aythya affinis) and Great Egret (Ardea alba). New distribution information is presented for the department of Cabañas for six species: Muscovy Duck (Cairina moschata), Lesser Scaup (Aythya affinis), Anhinga (Anhinga anhinga), Bare-throated Tiger Heron (Tigrisoma mexicanum), Pinnated Bittern (Botaurus pinnatus) and Least Bittern (Ixobrychus exilis). El embalse hidroeléctrico 5 de noviembre posee una superficie de 1,600 ha y se sitúa sobre el río Lempa, en los departamentos de Chalatenango y Cabañas. Fue establecido en 1954 y pese a ello hasta la fecha no existe ningún estudio sobre la avifauna acuática que alberga. Se presenta información de la búsqueda de aves acuáticas realizadas entre noviembre de 2018 y octubre de 2023, mediante recorridos que cubrieron el 80% del cuerpo de agua, registrándose 45 especies pertenecientes a 7 órdenes y 16 familias taxonómicas. Las familias con mayor número de especies fueron Ardeidae (n=11), Scolopacidae (n=8), Anatidae y Laridae (n=5). Las especies con mayor abundancia relativa fueron: Cormorán neotropical (Nannopterum brasilianum), Pichiche ali blanco (Dendrocygna autumnalis), Pato-boludo Menor (Aythya affinis) y Garza Grande (Ardea alba). Se presenta información de nueva distribución para el departamento de Cabañas para las especies Pato Real (Cairina moschata), Pato-boludo Menor (Aythya affinis), Pato Aguja (Anhinga anhinga), Garza Tigre (Tigrisoma mexicanum), Avetoro Neotropical (Botaurus pinnatus) y Avetorito americano (Ixobrychus exilis).
