We surveyed the beaches of the northern coast of Guanacaste to observe the presence of nests of this species and to register human threats. At the same time we collected information on beaches where research projects were carried out. The main nesting beaches for east Pacific green turtles were Nombre de Jesús, Zapotillal, Blanca, Matapalo, Prieta y Cabuyal. The main threats were: illegal egg poaching, beach development and uncontrolled tourism. Costa Rica hosts the second larger rockery of east Pacific green turtles and the most important nesting beaches lack of protection. Increase control on these beaches and in its neighboring waters is essential to save this population from extinction. Este trabajo tiene como objetivo dar a conocer las acciones humanas que amenazan de extinción a la tortuga verde del Pacífico o tortuga negra (Chelonia mydas). Se realizó un relevamiento para conocer las playas donde ocurre anidación de tortugas negras en la costa norte de Guanacaste y se registraron amenazas encontradas durante estos recorridos. Al mismo tiempo se realizaron observaciones en playas donde se estaban realizando proyectos de investigación. Las principales playas de anidación para esta especie fueron Nombre de Jesús, Zapotillal, Blanca, Matapalo, Prieta y Cabuyal. Las amenazas detectadas fueron: recolección ilegal de huevos, desarrollo de playas de anidación y turismo sin control. Costa Rica posee el segundo sitio de anidación en importancia conocido para esta especie en el océano Pacífico y las playas de mayor importancia para la especie carecen de protección. Aumentar el control en estas playas y en las aguas adyacentes es esencial para preservar a esta población de tortugas negras de la extinción.
