The Green Revolution, with its mechaniza-tion and massive use of artificial goods, came to stimulate monoculture and technological depen-dence. Agroforestal and forestry-pastoral systems, polyculture and mixed orchards are efficient forms of production, ecologically sustainable, that in dif-ferent places of America, even in Costa Rica, far-mers have maintained in spite of the Green Revo-lution and that should now be promoted. Se revela brevemente el carácter de “economía agrícola pa-ra el autoconsumo” de la sociedad costarricense hasta el siglo XX; economía respetuosa de la diversisdad biológica y estimuladora de la diversidad productiva. La Revolución Verde, con su mecanización y uso masivo de insumos arti-ficiales, vino a estimular el monocultivo y la dependencia tecnológica. Sistemas agroforestales, silvopastoriles, poli-cultivos y huertos mixtos son formas eficientes de produc-ción, ecológicamente sostenibles, que en diversos lugares de América, incluso en Costa Rica, los agricultores han mantenido a pesar de la Revolución Verde y que debieran de potenciarse ahora.
