AMBIENTALES120252019-12-05T19:33:42Z Law of the Sea and Coastal-Marine Management in Costa Rica Derecho del mar y manejo marino-costero en Costa Rica Murillo, Carlos Manejo marino costero; hábitat marino The relationship between man and sea has existed throughout history and it has acquired a particular relevance in the last years due to environmental problems and the international and state regulations about the sea ad the coastal-marine space. These regulations increased greatly with the adoption of the 1982 Sea Right Agreement, which made the countries along the rivers acquire some compromise and responsibilities concerning marine resource protection. The first part of this article is a brief summary of the evolution of the sea right. Then it is followed by the Costa Rican participation and contribution to this topic. Later, the disposition of the coastal-marine relations—specially the Costa Rican one—as well as the obligations of the riverside states to apply norms that guarantee their area´s protection and conservation are analyzed. This way, it is possible to access the sustainable management of coastal areas in order to point out the important role of international cooperation and regional approach. La relación entre el ser humano y el mar se ha dado a todo lo largo de la historia y en los últimos años ha adquirido una rele-vancia particular por los problemas ambientales y las regulacio-nes internacionales y nacionales sobre el mar y el espacio mari-no-costero. Estas regulaciones tuvieron un gran impulso con la adopción en 1982 de la Convención sobre el derecho del mar, que estableció una serie de compromisos y deberes para los estados ribereños en materia de protección del recurso marino. Este artí-culo reseña brevemente la evolución del derecho del mar, evalúa el aporte y la participación costarricenses en ese ámbito, analiza las disposiciones sobre la relación marino-costera –especialmen-te en Costa Rica- y las obligaciones de los estados ribereños en la implementación de normas que garanticen la protección y la conservación de los recursos en ese espacio a fin de acercarse a la administración ambientalmente sostenible de las zonas costeras, reconociendo el rol fundamental de la cooperación internacional y los enfoques regionales.
