His primary school was in his hometown school, and he was in the Liceo del Sur in San José. He has done informal studies in Mexico and the United States. All his intellectual and literary education is self-taught. Professor in the Universidad Nacional (UNA), Costa Rica. Researcher of the School of Literature School and Language Sciences. He received the University professor title in 1989. He has won almost all the prizes that Costa Rica has awarded in various branches of literary events: Premio Magón, Aquileo Echeverría for short stories, poetry and novels, and others. He has plenty of literary work, it consists of three novels, six short stories and some fifteen poetry works. Alfonso Chase Brenes nació en Cartago, el 19 de octubre de 1944. Cursó sus estudios primarios en una escuela de su ciudad natal y los secundarios en San José, en el Liceo del Sur. Realizó algunos estudios informales en México y Estados Unidos. Toda su formación intelectual y literaria es autodidáctica. Académico de la Universidad Nacional (UNA), Costa Rica, de la Vicerrectoría de Extensión, investigador en la Escuela de Literatura y Ciencias del Lenguaje, se le concedió el título de Catedrático en 1989. Ha ganado casi todos los premios que Costa Rica ha otorgado en diversas ramas del acontecer literario: Premio Magón, Aquileo Echeverría de cuento, poesía y novela, entre otros. Su obra literaria es muy basta: tres novelas, seis cuentos y unos quince poemarios.
