As a geographic concept, space was inserted in the history of Geography under different approaches. For more than three decades,, the understanding of this concept as lefe bases influenced graphographers inserted in critical geography, to understand the understanding of space through the relational approach. Indeed, the present article lists the contributions of Rogério Haesbaert, Marcelo J. L. de Souza, David Harvey and Milton Santos to the understanding of geographic space in contemporary times. La palabra espacio está sujeta a diferentes acepciones y como consecuencia su significado varía tanto en el sentido común, como en su comprensión por la ciencia. Mientras un concepto geográfico, el espacio fue insertado en la historia de la Geografía bajo distintos enfoques. Por más de tres décadas, la comprensión de este concepto bajo las bases lefebvrianas influenció geógrafos insertados en la corriente de la geografía crítica, contribuyendo para el entendimiento del espacio por el abordaje relacional. En efecto, este artículo presenta las contribuciones de Rogério Haesbaert, Marcelo J. L. de Souza, David Harvey y Milton Santos para el entendimiento del espacio geográfico en la contemporaneidad. A palavra espaço está sujeita a diferentes acepções e como decorrência seu significado varia tanto no senso comum, quanto na sua compreensão pela ciência. Enquanto um conceito geográfico, o espaço foi inserido na história da Geografia sob distintos enfoques. Por mais de três décadas, a compreensão desse conceito sob as bases lefebvrianas influenciou geógrafos inseridos na corrente da geografia crítica, contribuindo para o entendimento do espaço pela abordagem relacional. Com efeito, o artigo em tela elenca as contribuições de Rogério Haesbaert, Marcelo J. L. de Souza, David Harvey e Milton Santos para o entendimento do espaço geográfico na contemporaneidade.
