Uma abordagem da SIG-H Navarro-López, América Alejandra Colonial frontierization GIS-H historical cartography desert space fronterización colonial SIG-H cartografía histórica espacio desierto fronteira colonial SIG-H cartografia histórica espaço desértico It was undertook an historical and cartographic investigation out on the limits of the border region of the Tuxtla Desert-Xiquipilas Valley, western frontier of the bishopric of Chiapa and Soconusco, in the south of New Spain, adjacent to the Captaincy General of Guatemala. The period of study begins in 1650, with the process of Composiciones de Tierras (1643) underway, and ends in 1810, at the end of the colonial period, with a territorial organization by Intendencias. From the analysis of documentary sources and cartography of the time, information was obtained and processed in a methodology designed for the orientation of geographic information systems towards history. The research allows us to analyze historically and geographically the processes of territorial appropria- tion through the use of land as strategies of demarcation and occupation in a frontier region. Se realizó una investigación histórica y cartográfica en los límites de la región fronteriza Desierto de Tuxtla-Valle de Xiquipilas, confín oeste del obispado de Chiapa y Soconusco, al sur de la Nueva España en colindancia con la Capitanía General de Guatemala. El periodo de estudio inicia en 1650, con el proceso de Composiciones de Tierras (1643) en marcha, y termina en 1810, en el ocaso del periodo colonial, con una organización territorial por Intendencias. Se recurrió al análisis de fuentes documentales y cartografía del periodo, de la que se obtuvo información que se procesó en metodología diseñada para la orientación de los sistemas de información geográfica hacia la historia. La investigación permite analizar histórica y geográficamente procesos de apropiación territorial, a través de los usos de la tierra como estrategias de demarcación y ocupación en una región fronteriza. Foi feita uma investigação histórica e cartográfica nos limites da região fronteiriça Deserto de Tuxtla-Vale de Xiquipilas, extremo oeste do bispado de Chiapa e Soconusco, ao sul da Nova Espanha, adjacente à Capitania Geral da Guatemala. O período de estudo inicia-se em 1650, com o processo de Composiciones de Tierras (1643) em curso, e termina em 1810, no final do Período Colonial, com uma organização territorial por Intendencias. Utilizou-se a análise de fontes documentais e cartográficas do período, a partir das quais foram obtidas informações que foram processadas em uma metodologia desenhada para a orientação dos Sistemas de Informação Geográfica para a História. A pesquisa permite analisar histórica e geograficamente processos de apropriação territorial, por meio dos usos da terra como estratégias de demarcação e ocupação em uma região de fronteira.
