Se analizan libros y artículos que abarquen en términos generales la historia del Arte Costarricense. Mediante una revisión y contrastación bibliográfica de las fuentes se  determina en esta producción perspectivas metodológicas y temáticas predominantes. Se establecen tres tendencias claras estos trabajos: una primera ubicada entre el año 1960 y la década de los noventa en donde predomina como propósito reconstruir  la vida de los artistas como medio para registrar la historia del arte, una segunda tendencia que surge en la década de los noventa, y se afianza hacia las primeras décadas del 2000, la cual no deja de utilizar la vida del artista como criterio de análisis, pero incluye poco a poco una revisión histórica del contexto nacional e internacional en el cuál los artistas nacionales crearon arte, y finalmente una tercera tendencia a partir de la primera mitad de la década del año 2000, donde se intenta trascender los dos anteriores estilos, en pos de una problematización de las artes desde diversas posturas teórico-metodológicas como los estudios culturales, estudios visuales, la iconografía y la iconología, entre otros.  The  following  investigation  analyzes  the  historiographical  production  on  Costa Rican  art  available  between  1960  and  2014. Books  and  articles  that  in  general terms   register   the   history   of   Costa   Rican   art   are   analyzed.   By   means   of comparison   and   bibliographical   review   of   the   sources,   several   themes   and perspectives are determined. Three tendencies are established as present in these works:  A first tendency present between the year of 1960 and the decade of the nineties, in which the  main purpose is to register art history by reconstructing the life of the artists, a second tendency which arises in the nineties and continues to be  present  towards  the  decade  of  the  2000s,  in  which  the  life  of  the  artist  is  still paramount  in  the analysis  of art, but  little by  little these  works  include  a historical review  of  the  national  and  international  context  in  which  Costa  Rican  artist produced their art, and finally a third tendency present towards the first half of the year   2000,   where   different   authors   try   to   surpass   the   last   two   trends,   to problematize  the  production  of  art  from  diverse  theoretical  and  methodological stances:  cultural  studies,  visual  studies,  iconography  and  iconology,  amongst others.
