To this end, an analysis of Spanish language teaching practices in multigrade primary schools is presented, with particular emphasis on the challenges observed, and recommendations are offered to strengthen both initial and continuing teacher education. The ideas presented stem from the findings of a graduate thesis conducted as part of the master’s program in Language and Mathematics Learning at the Autonomous University of Querétaro, Mexico. Este ensayo aporta a la discusión sobre la necesidad de incorporar las especificidades de las escuelas multigrado en los programas de formación docente de México y destaca la importancia de una especialización en didáctica del español. Para ello, se muestra un análisis de las prácticas de enseñanza del español en primarias multigrado, con énfasis en las dificultades observadas, y se proponen orientaciones para fortalecer la formación inicial y continua del profesorado. Las ideas presentadas derivan de los resultados de una tesis de posgrado en el marco de la Maestría en Aprendizaje de la Lengua y las Matemáticas de la Universidad Autónoma de Querétaro, México.
