The following identified actions do not in any way attempt to reduce the complex realities of education to a few elements; however, they point out actions in which attention could be paid to in favor of the continuous improvement of processes. Initially, it is considered essential that education systems recognize the pedagogical knowledge of teachers and involve it in the configuration of educational policies. On the other hand, a reflective study on the role of faculties in education is imperative, where there seems to be a disconnection between theory and practice and between the teacher that is planned to be trained and the one that is achieved. Finally, the perspective of making educational research the driving force with which pedagogical knowledge is built is highlighted. El presente ensayo hace una reflexión crítica sobre algunas de las situaciones que afronta la educación latinoamericana, en la cual los pobres resultados de los estudiantes, en comparación con los de las naciones del primer mundo, los difíciles y cambiantes escenarios que viven los maestros y las grandes demandas de la sociedad, que pugnan por una formación de mayor calidad, requieren un sistema escolar que continuamente suscite transformaciones profundas. En tal sentido, este análisis plantea varios elementos, como parte de las acciones que se deberían emprender en pro del mejoramiento continuo de los procesos. A saber, inicialmente se considera imprescindible que los sistemas educativos reconozcan el conocimiento pedagógico de los docentes y lo inmiscuyan en la configuración de políticas educativas. Por otro lado, se hace imperante un estudio reflexivo sobre el rol de las facultades en educación, donde pareciera haber una desconexión entre la teoría y la práctica, entre el maestro que se proyecta formar y el que se logra forjar. Finalmente, se destaca la línea de convertir la labor investigativa en educación, la fuerza motriz con la cual se construye el saber pedagógico.
