Twenty two forested sites were evaluated between Rincon River and Carate River, to determine the floral composition and horizontal composition of the forest and the demographic characteristics of squirrel monkey troops (size and sex composition). Sixty three 20 by 50 meters plots were established and a total of 4416 trees were found belonging to 354 different species. Forested sites near La Palma town were more diverse and shared a similarity in floral composition. It is urgent to implement voluntary conservation tools among private landowners outside of protected areas and to educate the community members in the surroundings of forested sites used by squirrel monkey troops. Se evaluó el estado del hábitat del mono tití fuera del Parque Nacional Corcovado en la Península de Osa, entre septiembre de 2005 y mayo de 2006. Se evaluó 22 sitios boscosos entre el río Rincón de Osa y el río Carate con presencia de monos tití, para determinar su composición florística y estructura horizontal, y las características demográficas (tamaño de tropa y composición por sexos y edades) de las tropas de mono tití. Se establecieron 63 parcelas, distribuidas entre los sitios boscosos, con un tamaño de 20 x 50 m. Se encontró un total de 4.416 árboles de 354 especies diferentes. Los sitios boscosos ubicados cerca del poblado de La Palma fueron los más diversos y compartieron similaridad en su composición florística. Las tropas tuvieron en promedio 19 individuos. Es necesario implementar herramientas de conservación voluntaria de bosques secundarios fuera de áreas protegidas y educar a los pobladores de las comunidades cercanas a los sitios boscosos utilizados por el mono tití.
